I recently received another complimentary Influenster Canada package to review, the #PICKYOURPOWER Rimmel Influenster VoxBox. The package contained Rimmel’s “Mini Power Palette” in colour 005 Boss Babe, and their “Wonder’Ink Ultimate Eyeliner” in Black. My first impressions were that the palette is small and compact, I initially thought it was just eyeshadow but it comes with a little highlight and a little “cheek and lip finish”. I decided to do a full face of makeup during yet another day stuck at home, because why not. Here are my thoughts!
The #PICKYOURPOWER Rimmel Influenster Voxbox: Review
So how did these products go for me? Pretty mediocre, but the eyeliner saved the day. Read on the find out why!
For my eyes, I started with a bare face as I usually do. This was a great idea because of the insane amount of fallout I experienced during my eye look. The palette colour I received has a gold as the lightest “base” shade (?) and then three darker colours. Right off the back, it is not really workable for my light skin and red undertones. I used the gold as an all over shade, it was powdery and not pigmented. Then I used the lighter brown shade in my outer corner, lots of fall-out, very difficult to blend, not pigmented. I then tried to create a cat-eye look (to the best of my ability with the tools at hand) by using a flat brush and a mix of the two darker colours to sweep out the corner of my eye.
Wonder’Ink Ultimate Eyeliner
To finish the look post-shadow I used the Wonder’Ink Liner for a cat eye look beginning from the very corner of my eye. This liner is definitely easier to work with than the palette. It is smooth, extremely dark, thin, waterproof and easy to handle. I would recommend this product to anyone – the palette though, I would not. I then moisturized, primed and threw on the rest of my face.
For my highlight and lips/cheeks, I tried my best to use what Rimmel gave me. The highlight is bad, it barely shows up on your finger if you swipe it through, and is negligible on the face. I ended up using the creamier colour to highlight and throw on top of my lip colour. It’s fun, but I wouldn’t reach for it again.
Overall, this #pickyourpower Rimmel Influenster Voxbox was not for me. The other lighter colour ways in the power palette Rimmel offers may have been more in my wheelhouse, I tend to like warmer coppers and neutrals, or fun blues and pinks. I do not like how the finished product turned out.
This palette’s pigment payoff is lacklustre, it is nearly impossible to blend, there is not enough colour variation, and the highlight is just sad. The eyeliner, on the other hand, is something I can see myself continuing to reach for. It was the light at the end of a dark, powdery tunnel for my eye look today.
Keep on keepin’ on,
