I signed up for Influenster this summer because as much as I love reading reviews on beauty products, I love writing them too. I was never sure how to be chosen, or if I would ever get chosen for complimentary boxes but alas one day, I got the email!
My “voxbox” from Influenster was titled #DateNightEssentials and included the following products:
- LaNeige Cream Skin Toner & Moisturizer
- Bourjois Twist Up the Volume 24HR Mascara
- Clinique “Take the Day Off” Makeup Remover for Lids, Lashes & Lips
- OGX Argan Oil of Morocco Extra Strength Dry Shampoo Travel Size
I was excited to see I would be getting a LaNeige product as I have heard great things but have never gone out and purchased things for myself, as well as the OGX Dry Shampoo for the same reason. I started using the box products the day I received them to take note of first impressions, and how they work for me overtime.
With Influenster campaigns, as these are called, you have to review the products on various sites, post about them and feature them on social media. In addition to what the campaigns called for, I figured this would be a great introduction into the beauty side of my site: my first post about these complimentary Voxbox products and an honest review. So here we go:
LaNeige: Cream Skin Toner & Moisturizer
I only recently jumped into the world of toners, so I was happy to receive this one complimentary to test. As someone with dry/combo skin, I was excited to see the reviews for a toner that did the best of both worlds – all the things a toner does (whatever that is) and moisturize!
I apply this with my hands after cleansing my face, and let it soak in. Sometimes I apply moisturizer following, and sometimes not. It does feel moisturizing, but I have yet to see any huge skin improvements from the toning side of things.
Overall, I don’t love the feeling it leaves on my face. I hate face wipes because they leave me with a sticky, oily residue on my skin and that is the same feeling this toner gives me. I’d rather stick with a regular toner and a trusted moisturizer after (like my The Ordinary duo of this toner and this moisturizer).
I don’t think I would purchase this one again, but that’s not to say it isn’t a great option. I’d be happy to try out more from LaNeige.
Bourjois Twist up the Volume 24HR Mascara
Fortunately I got to test out this mascara for a little bit before getting eyelash extensions for the first time (a post to come on that soon). As far as mascara goes, this one did not wow me. Although I received it for free, the normal $23 dollar price tag still shocks me.
The brush is huge and hard to work with, the formula is okay but tends to clump and look worse after 2 or 3 coats. It also began to flake and look lack-lustre throughout the day. I have fairly long, curled eyelashes but they are light blonde and invisible with no mascara. Therefore, any application of mascara does make a big difference. But… this Bourjois formula does not do the trick like the “Lash Princess” line from Essence (of with the “volume” formula is my go-to). For less than $5, it is a no brainer.
So what did I think overall? I’d pass on this one. There is much better out there for less money and more va-va-voom lash impact.
Clinique “Take the Day Off” Makeup Remover for Lids, Lashes & Lips
Ok so I am guilty of washing my face with whatever resides on the side of the sink (i.e. bar soap, foamy anti-bacterial soap, toothpaste… just kidding), so it was a great wake-up call to receive this product. It is an oil-based remover to use on your eyes and lips. And wow does it ever do the job!
I apply a little amount on a cotton pad and in one or two swipes across my eyes most of my makeup is gone, even waterproof eyeliner. This product makes me understand why people invest in makeup-removers. Due to the oil base, it does not seem to dry out or irritate the sensitive eye area (and this is compounded due to how easy it is to remove anything). I would highly recommend this to people who love a heavy eye look, or waterproof mascara or liner.
In short, I would definitely re-purchase or at least highly recommend this!
OGX Argan Oil of Morocco Extra Strength Dry Shampoo Travel Size
I love this product! I am brand new to the world of Dry Shampoo which is fairly sad as I am infamous for letting my hair go a few days longer than it should. This product is great: it gives the hair more volume, it doesn’t weigh it down, it does not leave a residue and it smells amazing! I have strawberry blonde hair so I didn’t have to worry about the chalky white look that a lot of brunettes experience.
My first time using it was to avoid showering due to a lack of time. It made my flat 4-day old hair that usually slicks back into a bun or pony tail into a voluminous delight. My pony tail looked tousled and perfect that day!
I would definitely purchase this product again, it’s easy to use and I cannot get over the amazing scent. I am a huge Argan oil fan so I was so happy to see I’d received this version of OGX’s dry shampoos.
So overall I had a great experience with these products. The OGX Dry Shampoo and Clinque “Take the Day Off” remover topped my favourites, the LaNeige comes next and the mascara came last.
So until the next supply of goods…
Keep on keepin’ on,
